Help for wife

My wife is getting into deer hunting this year and I would like her to start with a muzzle.  Problem is I hunt archery and have never shot a muzzle before.  Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to buy?

I think that rifle should be balanced fairly well and isn't too heavy.  I don't have personal experience with the rifle, but I would think it would be one worth considering.  Weight is 7lb 3oz and barrel length is 26". 

I'd suggest using sabots and jacketed bullets.  You should be able to find a load that shoots accuratley and isn't too heavy grain of bullet to kick her too bad.

I'm in Lakewood.  I plan on taking her to the TSC to get her comfortable shooting different types of guns starting with 22's, 17's and a few shotguns.  Maybe I could contact you when she is ready.

No offense to Curly but, I wouldn't go with the thumbhole stock versions of Knight.  The stocks on these are fairly long and probably wouldn't fit your wife.  They also cost a pretty penny.  If I was you I'd go to Bi-Mart and pick up a .50 Cal. Knight Big Horn because they are right now about $179.  They are cheap but they are still a Knight and are very accurate, light and just an all around great gun. 

As for loads I'd set her up with some sort of jacketed sabot around 250 grains.  I recommend the Hornady SST.  As for loads you don't want to blow her arm off with recoil so I'd recommend using only 100 grains of pellets whether it's pyrodex, 777 etc.  This is what I use for deer and the recoil is light and I shot last years deer at 165 yds so it still has plenty of power.  Here is the set up that my wife used last year for elk and deer.

.50 cal Knight
250 grain Precision QT Sabot.
100 grains of Pyrodex Pellets ( 2 50 grain pellets)
Musket Cap for ignition.

Like I said, I have no experience with that rifle........I just saw it in a catolog the other day and thought a thumbhole stock might fit better than the standard stock for someone with a smaller hand.  I do think the Knight is a great brand though, and I'd recommend any of their models that feel right and fit well.  I do agree that .50 cal would be best.

Yeah I didn't want to step on your toes there curly or come off rude.  My dad and my little bro both have the thumbhole stock and like I said it's nice in that it does cut down on recoil but the stock is also a little longer than the standard one.  That being said it was too long for my wife.  I do highly recommend it for men though.

I would have to second that opinion. My pard. has the thumbhole stock on his, and I have the regular on mine. My wife doesn't like the way his fits but has no problem with mine.

my shoots a knight and has since he was 10 years old. we load it with 100 grains of powder and a 180 grain sabot and the recoils is nil.

Sounds good.  We will start with light loads and build up to see how she reacts.  I would hate to witness her beating you up.  On second thought . . .
