Mukilteo pier crabbing no good anymore?
« on: July 06, 2021, 11:50:50 AM »
I've been out to Mukilteo a few times since the season opened, and it looks like everyone is getting skunked. There were six or eight of us out at the old fishing pier the morning of the fourth, and I think I saw a total of three crabs hauled in over as many hours, nothing close to a keeper. I went to the new fishing pier a couple times since then, same result. In fact, I haven't pulled a single crab out of the water all season, keeper or not.

Was I just unlucky, or are the Mukilteo piers no good for crabbing now? I've never limited out there, but I always caught something before this year.

I used to get as many as I wanted with Scuba gear, then the same with my boat.  Last year, it was horrible, I think it gets crushed by commercials and/or Tulalips anymore.  It can only take so much pressure and then even crabs get cleaned out.

Need to head north or to the westside.  Further south you go the crab are wiped out.

Take the ferry across to Clinton, you'll do better there.  The new pier location isn't in the best crabbing location.

You aren't the guy that left the pack of chicken legs on top of his ice chest are you?  If so, you made some gulls very happy.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Yeah, I suspected I needed to go north or over to Whidbey.

Nope, I was the fat guy with the Coleman chair.
