Advise for bank fishing the Columbia
« on: July 07, 2021, 12:29:29 PM »
Headed down to Woodland this weekend with the RV at the riverfront park. I plan on fishing from the bank plunking spin glows for salmon. Never fished down that way. Any recent reports of fish being caught and preferred ways to catch from the bank. Thanks  :fishin:

Fish will be deep. If you cannot cast that far, bring a kayak to drop off baits

You can catch sturgeon at the Ridgefield boat ramp in the slough.

If you are going for salmon, a kayak is really necessary.  With sturgeon, you could probably get by.  Either way, not a bad way to enjoy a couple days.

We tied off to big rocks with breakaway leader and drove them way out for salmon, the challenge is both getting your stuff out that far as well as getting it to stay in place without spending $500 on lead.

Have you checked the regs?   Chinook fishing (except for jacks) is closed there.  It's open for sockeye or steelhead which are not deep water fish, no problem casting from shore.  A spin-n-glow tipped with a shrimp could land you either.  Good luck
