Sure does look that way.  Would be cool to see the other side.

Looks like it may be that. I have seen livestock get a hole in that spot from an injury and it will weep fluid for a long long time if it gets into the stomach cavity. Maggots help keep it clean and draining too so it will look wet around the wound like that. Had an icelandic ram get bit by a dog and looked that way for eight months or more.

Curious what makes ya think that. I would think that a cat would have left scratch and bite marks too. I was thinking either a gun wound, or a stab wound from a bull or branch. She will show up again and maybe get a peek at her other side.

That wound is in no mans land……right below the spine and just above the lungs.  My guess is an arrow complete pass through or possibly arrow to the spine and broke off.   Could also be a rifle wound….if that’s the case the bullet didn’t perform well at all because even a poor shot from a rifle would have had enough cavitation to destroy the upper lungs and possibly spine.

Who knows though!!!!!  Could be an infection from a tick???   :dunno: :dunno:

I would guess arrow and the hair was licked off around it.  Looks like it would go right through the meat and either between or through a feather bone.

My thoughts exactly, I would guess arrow for sure.

Hmmm, could be arrow, would think the hole would be bigger, or more triangular shaped though.  :dunno:

Not to hijack your thread but I think this bull has an old wound as well. It might be the lighting but it sure looks like a slash or something. Any guesses? Thanks.

He's just in the sunlight at a funny angle I think. As for the cow, the wound would get hot and the hair around it will slough off. I have all manner of livestock and do my own vet work most of the time. Some meds are restricted to having a vet license so I still use a very good vet nearby and buy hay from a USDA vet. I get to see a lot of animal wounds. I recall a bull elk one time that had this same wound. As stated by jrebel, that wound didn't hit any vitals is my guess. It went clean through and isn't healing probably because it's a sucking wound. Who knows what really did it but I would guess as long as she keeps it clean enough it will heal up.
