Aluminum/ Stainless steel polishing experts.
« on: July 13, 2021, 12:33:11 PM »
I picked up this Snowmobile trailer to replace my old one . The lower trim piece has a bluish/white tint to it in a couple spots and I would like it gone . I'm not sure if its Aluminum,  Stainless Steel or what . I've already polished it with Mothers and while its removed it drastically,  I can still see it in certain light . Any recommendations?

Yowwwwzzzersss!!!  That's a big one you got there.  Thanks for the sale of your other one....all three of my sleds fit perfect.  Wish I could offer up a solution to the polishing....but I have no idea.  Good luck finding a solution.

Sounds like you need to use some abrasive and then go up through to a polish, but it would differ quite a bit whether you have aluminum or stainless.  If it's aluminum, be prepared to do it at least once a year, stainless holds a shine much better due to being stainless.

For that amount, you'll need some type of mechanical polisher - DA, rotary, forced, whatever, and it will still be a chore for sure.

Basically, you pick an area to test and then go increasingly gritty until you find the minimum that will get you the finish you want and then do the rest with that regime.  It could be one pass with one pad and chemical or multiple passes with multiple chemicals, it's hard to predict if you haven't done a bunch of similar stuff so it's mostly guess and check.  Try something light, then a couple of passes, then more aggressive, more passes, repeat until you either run out of motivation or you get what you want.

Told ya I needed a bigger 1  :chuckle: . No way I could of fit 4 in my old one . This one 4 is no problem and a bonus it has a heater in it   8). Glad its working for you , and was a pleasure meeting you.

Stein .
I'm not sure if its Aluminum or Stainless  . With the Mothers polish it will turn Black on both materials  , however no matter how hard I scrub  I cant get it to turn Black ? Picked up.some Renegade products Rebel Red which a local big rig Chrome shop recommended . They said rub it till it turns black then whip off . Still wont turn Black ( worked as described on my AluminumJeep wheels ) . Yeah I know its alot of area , I bought a variable speed polisher just for this .
Figured I would have to try different grits , just not sure where to start
