Stud blacktail (Oly Park)
« on: July 18, 2021, 05:35:04 AM »
We did the switchback trail up to Lake Angeles yesterday. It is amazing seeing the potential that some deer have when they live to an old age. We watched these guys for about 20-30 minutes. The little guy is larger than any blacktail I have ever taken. The big guy has 8 points on his left side if they all grow and 6 on his right.

Also, I have never seen a deer do this but the larger deer just sat down for like 10 minutes and stared off into a field. Have you guys ever seen a deer sit like this?

Epic pictures! I’d love to get a good alpine BT archery hunt in sometime but I’m just not in Washington enough anymore, have to stick to the lowlands every time I come back.

Great pictures, I’ve seen a few deer in my lifetime but none sitting like a Labrador retriever in a duck blind :chuckle:….I’ve seen them squat, but not sit like that for long periods. Cool pictures👍

My dad had an old slide photo of a deer sitting like that but I've never seen it in real life. Very cool photos, those are some phenomenal deer.

I keep looking at your picture of the sitting deer, almost want to walk up to it, pat his head and give him a treat :chuckle:

Switch back trail off the road to Hurricane Ridge from Heart of the Hills? That is a crazy steep trail! Did that the first time into Lake Angeles, that was 30 years ago!

Great pics of some awesome blacktails! I am in the group of folks who have never seen a deer sit like that. Great capture.

Yes, that is the one. I think it is about 2000 ft elevation gain in about a mile until you hit the ridge. Then you hike the knifes edge until you drop down 900 ft to the lake.
