Ok y'all 4 wheeler experts need some input

I just inherited a 4 wheeler that was my grandfathers.

Its a mint condition garage kept Yamaha breeze 1996 little guy

My grandmother had a guy that helps keep there place up start it up and run it. Said he had it out and running around a few days ago.
I picked it up today but could not get it to start and run.

What it's doing is:
When I go to start it, it will not start without the choke. If I touch the gas it floods.
When I pull the choke it will start, rev up and then die off. About 3 seconds of run time.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Or you could just clean the carb.
Lots of YouTube for how to.
Or just buy another like suggested.
Definitely a carb problem,sounds like main jet is plugged.

You are way better off cleaning the factory carb than getting an aftermarket.  More than likely, the pilot jet is plugged, pretty simple job to do and you will be doing it every year with the quality of gas we have now.  Also do yourself a favor and use non-ethanol gas and drain the float bowl when it will be stored for a while.

I've had like pretty goodluck on cleaning carbs on small engine.
Take it all apart ,jets ,float, all that.
Take a really fine copper wire ,run through jets.
Then I use brake cleaner with the straw ,blow through all jets all the holes where jets was at on carb,compressed air blowing in all the small spots on carb.
Reassemble it .
But if you have dirty gas,or sometimes dirt collectes in the shut off for the tank. Or anything like that you'll be doing it twice.
You would be surprised at the tiny little spec of dirt or whatever that can cause running problems.

If you do clean it... recommend... set yourself up with a nice clean open work space covered with a lite colored junk towel, and DON'T LOSE ANYTHING!

Stick the 30 dollar new one on it, ride it like you stole it.

If you feel inclined, clean the factory one in case the new one messes up, have a back up carb.

I've cleaned many from lawnmowers and snowblowers to snowmobiles and as much as I like doing this stuff myself, if nothing else to know the working order of all the parts and pieces, if you figure your time is worth anything and it's maybe not really your thing the above is very good advice and I'd recommend spending the 30 bucks for a new one and if you feel like tinkering with it take the old one apart and clean it for a back up.

It's definitely worth the dependable,and time to just buy a new one.
Sometimes cleaning ,will work for a bit,and sometimes stuff just wears out .

As KF said, if you can get a $30 new replacement carb, there is really no reason to waste time on cleaning the old carb unless you want it as a spare. Heck at that price, I would by two and keep a new one as a spare!
I have to say it is kind of satisfying to have a non-starting motor, pop out the jets and clean them. Put them back in and have good running motor again. I even bought a carb jet cleaning tool set because I got tired or using speaker wire, 😆

Saw a video of a guy who makes tons of money off Harley owners by using a soda blaster to clean their carbs. Takes him like 40 mins to do an entire cleaning and charges $100. Soak in warm water afterwards to dissolve any soda deposits and puts them in an ultrasonic bath for a bit. Looks brand new afterwards!
