Grayland Beach & Westport Jetty
« on: August 10, 2021, 03:26:47 PM »
Wife just told me we leave tomorrow morning for a last minute trip up to camp at Grayland Beach. Will grab surf perch gear.

Was wondering if a $300 sit on top kayak will be enough to get out by the Westport Jetty for sea bass? Obviously if it’s windy/choppy it would be a no go but have only been up there a couple times on a drive. Never looked much at the jetty area. Any guidance on whether I should pack a couple kayaks to try?

from what I understand you need to get at least half way down the jetty to be where the seabass are.  Half moon bay and base of jetty for perch would be doable on calm days.

Check www.experiencewestport.com and check the live web cam. Shows real time water conditions at the jetty.

Thanks all! Will leave the yaks at home this trip and use the time to learn the area a bit more. Will look i to renting some crab pots and walk out onto the jetty with the fishing poles.

There are several YouTube's I've seen on the Westport Jetty, I've had it on my list of things to do for a long time.   Here's an old one that might help:

This is not accurate.  It may be better (I don't know) but I've caught them by the seawall that protects the marina.

It is quite the hike on the rocks but just keep going out looking for blue paint arrows on the rocks work both sides of the jetty.  Go for the gusto use 5 inch or 6 inch Berkeley power bait white glow or penny colored rubs on a three-quarter ounce jig head. Don’t be afraid to let them hit the bottom. Look for indentations on the jetty creating a little cove.  When the rocks get spread apart so far you’re having to jump in between them and there’s deep holes no point going on beyond that. I wished I was going myself but just not been my year darn it.
