Kenai River April 09
« on: April 29, 2009, 11:36:18 AM »
Hit up the Kenai on Saturday.  It started out pretty nice a little cool (25*) but sunny.  Soon the sun turned to clouds and wind.  It did get above freezing.  The fishing was decent for us but sucked for everyone else.  We landed four nice rainbows, 18" - 22" and lost 5 or 6 others.  I lost a really nice rainbow that still haunts me.  (25"+)  The river was lower than I have ever seen it.  We followed a couple drift boats through some skinny water and they had to drag their boat a lot.  Evan the guys in rafts and catarafts were dragging their boats but that has to do to their rowing skills and thats another story in itself.  All in all it was a good trip.

I am pretty much set.  Why you got some surplus you won't need?

outstanding colors in those shots, from the scenery to the boat to the fish.  MAN I am jealous.   Course if I was up there I'd be looking for moose paddles instead of fishing.

Still froze but it should break up this week.  Lots of blue ice and its in the high 50's here in Anchorage.  It may get into the 60's by the end of the week :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:   He better get on it there are some big blackies waking up right now.  A friend of mine saw a monster blackie while he was brown bear hunting last week.

+1  I quit salmon fishing when I started bowhunting and my turkey hunting has taken a nose dive thanks to shed hunting...
