I went into one of my spots, let a soft bugle followed by a chuckle and he came in screaming at me. It was just kinda for fun, but I didn’t scare him off, it was weird, he didn’t even try to get my wind at all, came in through the jack firs, and stared at me from 15ft away, he didn’t see the bull I was trying to be so he eventually turned and walked away. I backed out as quiet as I could be and left. I’ll be back on the 11th…..!! Hopefully walk down in there and kill him!

I've never understood the fascination of calling in bulls before the season starts. I get that it's a lot of fun, but I personally prefer to call them in during season.
I rely on finding their key areas and knowing where they're hanging out. And when the season does open, it's the 1st time they've heard that call. That initial confrontation is almost always incredible.

I think the more elk in an area the sooner they get going . right now they are going nuts in our hunt area .

Back when we hunted the Gifford Pinchot alot the elk typically got fired up right after the first cold snap. When the nights were frosty and they days could still reach the 70's. Same with the East side. Once the nights get considerably cooler than the day they know it's time to start getting "horned up" as we would say. My sheep and goats are starting to stink already as well. Just a little though.

When the nights are cold and long and netflix makes more sense than campfires humans tend to get horned up as well...

Usually I don’t, but I wanted to find out. But either way he’s not the only one who I k ow where they’re hanging out and tearing up trees already.

Come season we will hear a lot of bulls are not bugling. Any idea why.  :chuckle:
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.
