when do the elk start to bugle?
« on: August 29, 2021, 03:11:35 PM »
When do you think the elk will start bugling? I know it could be anytime in the fall but do you think they might bugle back in a few weeks if I call?
Do it right the first time,

                       not the second.

They’re probably already bugling.

A couple were singing behind the house a few nights ago.
Pretty wimpy sounding though.

Had a bull chuckling and lightly bugling at me on Saturday night.

He was also an 8x7 with a huge kicker off the left main beam...  Largest bull I've ever laid eyes on.

I'm no elk expert but in my limited.experiemce they start bugling before they start responding to bugles.

I had bulls bugling back at me yesterday several times. I was only whistling since I had forgotten to bring the elk call. This was near Mt. St. Helens.

I don't believe they really start bugling until the day after archery season closes.
Typically, from there, they will bugle aggressively until the day before muzzleloader season opens.

That is when I traditionally see them just going nuts all day and night long.  I just happen to have a tag that is good for that timeframe.  :IBCOOL:

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
