Rifle Hunting During Archery Deer and Elk Season
« on: September 01, 2021, 03:10:10 PM »
I can't seem to find any weapon restrictions in the regulations regarding the use of weapon for bear or cougar during archery deer or elk season. Could someone enlighten me on what the law is?

I think your good for bear or cats
Unless you have a archery elk or deer tag in your pocket
And a warden who thinks your up to no good
But rules wise I’ve never seen it

I think the only restriction is night hunting (like for coyotes, etc), and that may just be for rifle season.

if you have an archery tag in your pocket while hunting other animals with a rifle the wardens will give you a real hard time or worse. best bet is to leave all other tags at home except the ones you are actively hunting

If you are just hunting bear any weapon is good doesn't matter the other seasons going on.

Also worth mentioning that blaze orange isn't required while hunting bear with a rifle. I'd definitely wear it during modern deer/elk though.

Agreed! I even changed out the black puffy I used to use for a yellow one. Didn’t want to be mistaken for a yogi.

Seems other archery hunters always seem to be the one with attitude toward a guy carrying a rifle for bear during season. I have seen that many times. But hey bear hunters have as much right as a deer or elk hunter whether that is a comment toward another hunter or game warden. Established seasons are there for a reason. Go out and have fun.

I am pretty sure hunters orange is required during modern deer and elk general seasons no matter what you are hunting.

That's the way I read the WAC.

https://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=220-414-080

(3) It is unlawful to hunt wildlife, except migratory birds, during those times and in those places open to taking of deer or elk during nonmaster hunter, modern firearm general seasons, unless the hunter is wearing fluorescent hunter orange and/or fluorescent hunter pink clothing.
