2.5 Merc 2 Stroke Machinist Bored A Hole In The Block
« on: October 02, 2021, 11:19:18 AM »
Rebuilding my 2.5 Mercury 2 Stroke. Though ‘rebuilt’ ones show on the ‘interwebs’ they do not ACTUALLY exist when you call on them, or order them. Same with a lot of the parts.
My block was good but needed a .015 bore on one cylinder, so was doing them all, and bought a $2200 crankshaft to make basically a brand new engine.
Talked to the machinist yesterday. He let the boring tool go too deep and actually CUT A HOLE IN THE BLOCK. He was just taking it over to get it welded up.
What. The. H.E. double hockey sticks?
Good blocks are hard to come by, and while I know they get welded all the time, how pissed should I get? Discount? Free bore job?
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

Wow.

Ummm, not understanding what he did exactly but based off my back in the day experience with dirtbikes they took the cylinder off to be bored.  :dunno:

2.5 Merc is a sleeved 2 stroke V6 horiz split block with fractured bearings, rods, forged one piece crank. The part of the block right below the sleeves tucks in just a bit.
He went too deep on at least one and cut through the side of the block. Fairly thin cast aluminum.

:o  Sounds like what I'm used to.  Here for the conversation.   :sry:
