7mag, I’m all in on 7mag now

:yeah: But I’ve been planning my own build in my head of what I would do right now if I didn’t have my gun and a different caliber.

-300prc
-#4 bartlein carbon wrapped barrel. This will fit in a manners EH6A according to their customer service.
-Manners EH6A
-Defiance Deviant Hunter action.
-Whatever aftermarket trigger you prefer.... lightweight bad ass rifle and you can shoot the 215-230s. That’s the only reason I would switch from 7mag to shoot those bullets.

I think I'd go with .300 Win mag.   That way you could kill stuff.  But then, you would not be able to dazzle your friends with terms like Lapua and Nosler and Creedmoor.

Yeah, those man bun guys that are in love with their 7mms are different.  I'm surprised that nobody has come up with a cartridge called the 7mm ManBun.

I think I'd go with 50 BMG. That way you could kill stuff.

You won't get as much meat compared to a wimpy smaller caliber like 300 win mag but a lot of the meat will be pre-cooked.

The 6.8 Western will deliver performance very similar to the 7mm Rem Mag depending on the exact load compared (learn more here https://thebiggamehuntingblog.com/6-8-western/ ).
The fact that it's still a pretty new cartridge means that it's tough to see what the future holds with it. On one hand, 6.8 Western rifles and ammo are surprisingly easy to find right now. In fact, it's much easier for me to find 6.8 Western ammo than 7mm Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag ammo at this instant. That's basically been the case since the 6.8 Western was introduced back in January of 2021. That's obviously a significant benefit in the short term.

This ammo shortage will (hopefully) end and it will eventually be easier to find most of the really common stuff again though. At that point, it's anybody's guess what will happen with the 6.8 Western. So, I think it's a pretty solid choice in the short term. As with any new cartridge though, you do run the risk of being an early adopter and being left high and dry if it doesn't really catch on and Browning and Winchester stop producing rifles and factory ammo for it in a few years....

Well, modern rifle season opens on the 16th, and my Ruger Ultralight in .270 Winchester is ready to go.  Ask me again in a couple of weeks.
