How are the "conflicted goat" hunters doing?
« on: October 11, 2021, 08:35:21 AM »
Talked with several hunters pre-season.  Wondering how they hunters did/are doing?  This promised to be a very tough hunt!

They're conflicted on whether or not they should have applied for those permits.

I thought it was the goats that were conflicted but you may be correct!

Seeing tons of goats just can’t get to them I watched one for 6 hours 200 yards away trying to figure out how to get to the ridge to climb it no way I’ve had one 30 yards above me I just can’t climb 27 yards up a cliff. Then the weather will say sunny but it dumps snow

Hunted the second season. Spent most of the first week in the tent due to weather. That weekend went up and found some but couldn't get to them. Saw one gal get a nice billy. She was the only person I know that got one. I went back for two more nicer weather windows, found them each time but couldn't get to them or wouldn't be able to recover them. Super tough hunt, glad I did it as hunting the OP that high was was something I would not have done otherwise.

Thanks for the post.  That's too bad on the result, but the hunt sounds awesome.  Would love to hear more (beer's on me, anytime).

We were up on brothers when that storm hit, very rough going, no visiblity, down poor for days. Couple of the bridges are down and we had wade across the flooded river. Could not get back up it. Extremely sketchy conditions!

Figures that would happen. Was he on the west side of the ridge, over the point behind your camp? I couldn't figure out how to get to that ridge without some serious rock climbing.
