November 1st can’t come soon enough
« on: October 20, 2021, 09:16:03 PM »
Everyone is at the cabin hunting and I am sitting here at home still working waiting for November 1st so I can be over hunting too on my late chewuch tag. The wait is killing me.

I feel your pain. I won't get there until the 6th but just for that weekend. I won't be there for the duration until Friday the 12th. That is unless there is serious snow before then, I'll call an audible and get over there. Good Luck Stu, I'll be camping at the Boulder Creek camping area, big wall tent, lots of firewood.

I've spent a fair amount of time in the last couple months checking out what I could around the closure areas. Some is scorched earth, some is hardly touched. My guess would be that migratory deer take their usual routes and just keep moving through the scorched earth parts. There is lots of ground within the current closure are that is virtually untouched. Could end up being a sanctuary for deer if there isn't enough to snow to push them.

I got serious about checking out 4 different areas in the last month, and 3 of them had good numbers of deer in them. I know the herd isn't what it was, but I don't think the fire destroyed them, just displaced most of them.

I was relatively amazed at how they actually were out in the scorched earth after the tripod fire.   Fresh growth, easier to see.   I guess the big question will be access and what they allow.

This last rain in the high country had them shrooming

I will be going over on the 30th and be there for the duration of the season so I can keep you updated as to what I see and what’s going on

I did go over and took a look for the opener and was surprised as to how much was open I thought the access was pretty good considering everything

That’s good to hear.   One big positive for you is that harvest in the Pasayten High hunt was very light, so there will be that many more critters moving through.
