Updated...

wet skull measurement was 18 1/4 inches.

measured 6' 2" from nose to tail.

An odd note....while skinning his back, I found a small hole in his hide on his back bone area...underneath the hide, he had obviously been wounded not long ago (fight) or perhaps cancer? It looked stange so I cut around that section...looked like it was wearing away or something.

Thanks to all again.

Douglas~

Outstanding, too often we hear of guys not putting in near enough effort to find game they may or may not have hit.  My hats off to you and congrats on a really nice looking bear!

Just out of curiosity how far did the bear go after you shot it?

probably a 1/4 mile. On a side note as well, he was living in a very heavily damaged (peeled trees) area, so I think I did what was expected of a "spring bear" hunter.

Looks like that bear has a really nice hide on him.  Was he rubbed at all anywhere?  Now I am looking forward to Fall Bear opening up.

He had just started to rub his paws slightly..only broken hairs there...other than that, nothing.
