Been there in so many ways!  :chuckle:
That sad thing is, the guy sitting on the bucket (or fishing out of the ratchet old boat, etc.) always seems to have a great big stack of fish!

put 40 perch on the ice today between a buddy and I,  wish I had put half of them there,  but he put up like 35 and I did like 5   :chuckle:

He does a lot of ice fishing and just schooled me today  :chuckle:     but I had fun, learned a ton

We were using the exact same lure, but he had on 2lb line and I had on 6lb,  he could feel them, I couldn't.

Garmin stryker plus 4 is awesome, I could see the fish, could see my lure, and watch them rise to the lure, awesome

sorry no pics, my 5 fish pile looked very very sad next to his 35 or 36 fish  :chuckle:

I'm just terrible at taking pics, I never remember

Did he have a spring bobber on the end of his rod?  That and low stretch line (4lb seems to work great for me) increased my sets on the subtle perch takes.

Ice was way better than I thought it would be, 8 inch or so

State park walk around find clusters of old holes, drill and mark, move, mark but they seem to roam around a lot

This old guy I went ice fishing with was a perch slayer.
His trick ,that he showed me was......
Get ready for this, he would catch a few, they would get half frozen sitting on the ice. He would pull out this thing ,it kinda looked liked a sharp paper clip . Anyway he would pop there eyeball out of the ones he caught . Throw those on his hook.
I swear it, and he sat over there and caught a pile, while I couldn't even feel them bite.

He even had an old pill bottle there full of fish eyes,
He would take them home freeze them, bring the leftover fish eye with him ,so he had a few to catch the first ones.
I swear it ,never seen that before.
The guy always had a pile, and never bought bait or anything.

8 inch ice yesterday with some areas you punch through to the lower layers, but if you stay on tbe trails it was hard ice, wished I had my boot chains.  Might have got some snow last night.  Weather supposed to be warm this week  :dunno:

Be ready to fish 50-60 feet

I talked to a guy heading to Cascade yesterday, must be a popular spot

I was thinking that might have been where you went. I’ll have to get some boot chains since it’ll definitely be a hand pulling the sled situation.
Yeah, Cascade is getting pretty popular year after year. It’s a huge body of water and there’s still plenty of room for people to spread out and fish. We’re leaving for there in the morning, so excited!
