What time of day are you doing your catching? Last summer it was early or late but I was thinking they'd be most active this time of year in the afternoon when it warms a degree or two. Does that sound correct?

Summer means hotter water, so early and late you are catching them transitioning to and from shallow feeding flats to deeper water. Night fishing in the summer months can be ridiculous. Vegetation causes shallow water oxygen levels to fluctuate during the hot months, making the evening and early morning bites more conducive also. Right now, any time of day can be good. Cover and depth are more important, 10 feet or less and rock and wood cover (that includes docks with wood pilings, docks are overhead cover, NOT structure)

Some beauties!! And first of the year is always AWESOME!

My son and I went out yesterday for our first fishing trip of 2022. We ended up with 4 largemouth, no hogs. The fish wanted a slow presentation. 3 fish came on a jig with a craw plastic, one on a motoroil worm. Picture is of a double we hit. I tossed a chatterbait and slow rolled a spinnerbait with no luck. I haven't pitched a jig in a long time. I like using an Uncle Josh pork trailer on jigs, but I haven't seen them in stores for some time. Plastic craw seemed to work fine.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Got out yesterday eve, got a 3.7lb on a lipless crank. It was tough fishing, very pressured and no one else was catching much either.
