Suggestions for a receiver pin
«
on:
February 28, 2022, 07:06:43 PM »
I just had to cut my second hitch receiver pin off my truck due to corrosion. The locks have been siezing up due to moisture and winter road salting/general crud.
Anybody have a lockable pin that has served them well and held up? My last one was working in November and totally inoperable as of last week.

Vaseline works great, I like white lithium as well use it more often.

I just ordered 2 of these keyed alike so I can have one in receiver, one in trailer. That being said, I dont leave them in when not in use so even over here where winter can be months on end if they're not in use, they dont get rusted up.

WD 40 is pretty much useless for any long term lube. Try Formula 8000 spray lube. I use it on my pin locks and outboard locks, so far so good, no complaints.

I use the one that Huntnphool posted. Been solid for quite a few years with no problem. I drizzle a bit of oil in it every so often.

I use one similar
I use boat trailer blue marine grease in the key hole
15 years no issue except some rust on the exterior

I had a Bolt on my last truck everyday for 4 years and never lubed it once. Best part is it uses your truck key.

I like that one! Putting it on my list.
Sounds like greasing is a good plan for any of these. Ashamed to say that did not occur to me.
Keeping the hitch off the truck when not in use is a good plan, however I end up pulling small trailers here and there often enough that I forget to remove it.

I had to use a cut-off wheel to get mine off.
I really like that whole Bolt line. Thanks for the link

Lots of coast trips on my locking ones of various types. I just lube them often. Same with padlocks. Sucks, but it is ‘Salt Life’. 😂
