The Leupold Warranty
« on: March 04, 2022, 06:49:14 AM »
Back in 2004 I bought a new pair of Leupold Wind River Binoculars from my local gun store.  18 years later after hundreds of backcountry miles and 20 or more big game animals the finish was well worn, the hinge was a little loose and one of the tubes had a dent near the objective lens.  Last week I sent them into Leupold to see if they would tighten the hinge up and maybe give them a good inspection.   Yesterday I received a brand-new pair of BX-4 Pro Guide HD binoculars.    Whoa!  I didn’t expect a new more expensive pair of Binoculars. I don’t know how a warranty could be any better than that.   I know some other companies that have their riflescopes built in a communist country claim to have the “best warranty” but Leupold has been doing it, and in the USA for over 60 years.

Likely because of those other companies “best warranties” the others kind of had to follow suit or lose the business. Let’s be honest, you can get almost same quality dollar for dollar but #1 guy doesn’t care he’ll back his product regardless of what happened to them and send you another while guy #2 says well you didn’t keep them tethered to your neck the whole time in the field so since your 5 year old accidentally knocks them off the camp table your out of luck not our problem for building a product that can’t handle minimal abuse.

Yeah I would rather buy from guy number one, he backs his product and doesn’t need to put in weasel ways to get out of his own warranty

Many years ago when I was looking for a used scope for my new rifle, I ran into a used Leupold 2x7.  It had been around the block, for sure.  It had scratches in the finish, and the entire gloss black tube had turned purple from age.  The ocular lens had a small scratch on it.  I sent it in to Leupold, and they sent it back with a new tube and new ocular lens.......the scope looked brand new.  Didn't cost me a dime, except for the postage.

Glad to hear this, I've got a 1988 variX II that looks like it has a chip inside it. It is only visible from the objective end and doesn't seem to affect it. I've been thinking of sending it in for over a decade, but never think of it in the off season.  Also don't want to have to use ammo to resight it in.  :chuckle:
