West TX Indio Ranch Aoudad hunting questions
« on: March 28, 2022, 10:14:24 AM »
Heading to West Texas to chase Aoudad on the Indio Ranch. It's a semi guided hunt. Anybody hunt it?

Couple of questions I have to right now:
Did you drive or fly?
How was the road system there?

I'm in contact with the guide, but wanted others take on it.

Thanks in advance.

Been close by, have not hunted it.  Reviews look decent.  The kind of country you may find a crying old rancher sad because his son's did not see it rain before they left home.  Fair amount of desert bighorn transplanting east of there.  It is border country, pay attention

Have not hunter there have hunted aoudad close to there. Like said be careful who you run into out there a guy can get himself into trouble if you run into the wrong group that’s not suppose to be there.

Snake gaiters would be great to add to your list helps cut down on how many spines get into your legs. Plus incase you step on a venomous buzz worm lol. They like rocks where the aoudads like to hang. Look at topo of the ranch and find the canyon edges and rock outcroppings. Also shady spots mid day that might be good bedding.

I was stupid and busted brush like a typical idiot first time I was down there. Every once in awhile I still get a chunk of prickly pear that works it’s way the the skin surface on my legs. BAD IDEA

We going in November but know that it still could hit 70 degrees there. My big concern is how bad the roads are in the area.

I think you’ll have a great time. I want to do one of these hunts pretty bad.

I’m also thinking about this kind of hunt. I think I would drive just to have my own rig and see the country. Have fun and post how it goes!
There is not enough wilderness left in the world, or in the hearts of men.

I was in that part of Texas in Feb. The distance between major towns is quite far. Look at a road map, that is a lot of time behind the wheel to use vacation time.

I will second this!
Nothing is less than an hour, maybe 2-3 away! Including a 911 call
Plan accordingly
One shot. One kill!
