He belongs on the board of PETA, not the Wildlife Commission. I'm glad he's gone. My god.  :bash:

From what I am told. He was run off the commission because of social media pressure. This is the way forward.

I think he resigned because him and Smith were called out on their "white privileged" views on  traditional food sources by the Swinomish Bio. Smith just wasn't smart enough to make the connection.

Awful. His idea that conservation and consumption have to be separate is very very telling. He is such a snowflake he couldn’t even handle being called out in his bs. He shouldn’t even be writing articles

To understand and see just how bad Rowland is for the Commisson is just see what Methow Valley Citizens Committee has done to and stopped in the Methow, IMOshe is probably one of the worst possible commissioners for protecting or even considering the rights of Hunters, Fishers and Trappers

She has no clue what hunting has done for this state.

Rowland said the spring bear hunt causes “unusual suffering” and indicated she believes climate change requires “a new assessment of how the department looks at conservation, including hunting of animals.”

Rowland seconded Ragen’s insistence that managers for the agency hadn’t compiled enough data on the state’s black bear population for them to determine if hunting was sustainable. Ragen said the department biologists should rely not only on data collected from hunter harvest reports to track bear populations as they do now, but instead compile highly detailed information such as minimum abundance estimates, growth trends and a tally of all human causes of mortality not related to hunting, all within defined geographic areas.

Theres a reason we didn't want to have Koontz on the commission and this just more proof of why. The commission should be more concerned with: and attempt to maximize hunting and fishing opportunities for all citizens.

It appears the tactic to close spring bear season and keep it closed is to demand unreasonably intensive studies they know the Dept probably will never be able to accomplish. Until people vote out the current governor this is the type of game management we can probably expect from his appointees.

And this is the scary part.  Until another party puts up some one worth a damn to displace the current ding-a-ling, Inslee will remain in office... :(

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset
