Choke question
« on: April 11, 2022, 05:44:12 PM »
New shotgun - Beretta Extreme plus. Comes with multiple chokes ( I do not have a designated turkey choke for this shotgun)
So wondering what the best factory choke to use?
Shooting Winchester double X 3.5” turkey, 2 oz , 5 shot, 12 g

Use the tightest choke you have which is probably a full. Then pattern it to see how it works at 40 yds. If it is good you can pattern it farther to see what you limit is. If you were closer or coming by me I would let you use my Beretta extra full or my XX ported comp-n-choke.

Awesome thanx!! Heading over to Curlew Thursday morning- just found the full choke in the case and swapped it out.

I haven't hunted turkey in a few years but those are the same shells I was shooting.

Like @Farmer72 said use your Full. you should have a set of 5. If you were close, I would loan my turkey tube for Beretta's.

Double check your owners manual, a lot of manufacturers don’t recommend shooting steel through full chokes.

Thanks a bunch guys!! Will be good as wadu1 said coated lead. Shotgun came with steel and no steel chokes. Sounds like I should look into a specific choke for turkey loads , but might have to go that route next yr or when I get back

I run the Carlson longbeard xr with Winchester Longbeard XR #4 and have smacked birds at 45 yds. I’m still on my first box of shells.

I would think Skagit arms might have a turkey choke for that shotgun.
That’sa long haul to curlew from lynden.  Probably faster to go through Canada!
