I received an email today from the Back Country Hunters and Anglers (BHA) President and CEO, Land Tawney. I called BHA and asked if it would be okay to share the message with this forum and others. The answer was predictably "Yes", so feel free to share with others. The message and video are good and they also emphasize the importance of raising our collective voices as hunters and anglers.

Watch the video.

The message from Land Tawny:

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers has always worked to tell the story of conservation in North America - what's at stake, how we can raise our collective voices, and, of course, the role played by hunters and anglers, the unsung heroes whose contributions largely fund state-based fish and wildlife management.

We're all too aware that hunting and guns aren't often portrayed favorably in the mainstream media. That's why our team was stoked to work with CBS on a segment that was broadcast last Saturday morning.

Check it out here! ( https://www.backcountryhunters.org/what_role_hunting_plays_in_wildlife_conservation_cbs_this_morning )

Why are we excited? First, because of the size of the CBS viewership. Our collective story was told to millions of households - including many folks who've never picked up a fly rod or shouldered a shotgun - and who, moreover, might have held a dim view of the hunting and fishing community. We changed some hearts and minds on Saturday.

We also appreciate CBS's commitment to telling the whole story about hunting, angling and conservation - and for helping us issue a call to action as we as a society explore ways to robustly fund the on-the-ground work needed to provide access to our public lands and waters and the quality fish and wildlife habitat when we get there. Innovation and creativity are called for if we are to secure the future of our cherished outdoor traditions far into the future.

But most importantly, this tells the story of BHA. You, our grassroots members who labor in the trenches, dedicating your time, talent and treasure in support of our mission - you make it possible for us to do the work that needs to be done for our public lands and waters...and to step up and be the leaders who build bridges between sportsmen and women and the public at large. Without you, we would never have been able to take advantage of this opportunity. Quite frankly, we wouldn’t be able to do anything here at BHA without you.

A big thank you and even bigger high five to all. We have much yet to do together!

Onward and upward,

Land Tawney
BHA President and CEO

Excellent. One of the main reasons I support the Master Hunter Program is the education you receive about conservation, hunting history, and how to speak to people who are ignorant about the benefits of licensed hunting and what it does for wildlife.

Telling our story is important and I will watch this CBS  program.

Good on BHA for doing this. I would argue that BHA being associated with Steven Rhinella and everyone they are talked about with Joe Rogan or other podcaster not specifically focused on hunting has more reach and influence. CBS certainly reaches the non hunter.
