What did this?
« on: May 21, 2022, 08:41:07 AM »
Hi everyone. I came across this tree yesterday with about 80% of it's truck missing about 12 feet above the ground. Just wondering what may have done it. Woodpecker,  porcupine, bigfoot?

Im thinking a joint effort there as Ive not seen woodpecker varieties be that industrious.  On the low end it looks like chew marks of a porkie.

Porcupines don't eat wood, only the bark and inner bark of the tree.

WP Tree rotted which is good bugging. Porky only girds and eats the bark. Never cuts into a tree like a beave.

They will too eat wood.  Used to have one that would eat on our barn, seen it several times.
