Bear hunting in a elk permit area?
« on: June 08, 2022, 08:27:20 AM »
Last year I was on the west side  searching for mushrooms in a national forest and all along the campgrounds were signs warning about bears frequenting the area due to all the trash and food people were leaving out. The bears were starting to get less afraid of people and were coming into camps while people were there. To me, it sounds like an area that I need to go to when bear season opens.
From what I’ve read it’s legal to hunt bear during the elk permit season, but I’m not completely positive.
If it is allowed, I don’t want to be screwing up peoples elk hunts that they’ve been waiting for. I believe it’s a semi difficult permit to draw and I don’t want to be the guy that ruins someone else’s hunt.
I’m thinking that if I stay low near the campgrounds I wouldn’t be interfering with the elk hunt, but I wanted to get some other opinions. I’m fairly new to hunting and I don’t want to be a blue falcon.

If the unit is open for bear hunting than hunt away my man.  Plenty of dirt for all involved.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Exactly.  All the big bulls ain't going to be near the campgrounds anyways.  I'd hunt the area in a heartbeat and not feel like I was "that guy". :)

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

Some land owners may say you only can hunt for your permit species, thinking of GMU 418. Otherwise you are good to go.
People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.

I’ve ran into permit hunters when bear hunting. I ask them where they are going so I can avoid the area. I don’t want to ruin their OIL tag hunt.

If I do see anyone I will definitely ask where they’re hunting so I can steer clear of that area.

I walked into a little meadow before I saw the guy watching it during general season. Felt bad until a couple minutes later he dropped a spike elk. People moving around isn't always a bad thing.
If I need a permit and education to buy a firearm than women should need a permit and education  before getting an abortion.

Voting for Democrats is prima facie evidence you are a skirt wearing, low T, beta male. Do better.

Didn’t even think about that.
