Nooksack Quality Deer
« on: June 16, 2022, 10:40:58 AM »
Finally drew Nooksack deer for Nov 1-12.  Hunted at 5000' at many of the trails around Mt. Baker, killed a few bears, seen a lot of bears, seen a few deer but not many bucks.

I'd appreciate any advice from the locals around locating some bucks.  Not looking for a trophy, just want a decent shooter and a good hunt.

Please DM if you're willing to share.  I'd be happy to share everything I've learned about the bears I've seen.

Mike

Why apply if you have no real experience hunting deer in the unit?

Good luck.

What better way to get experience in a unit than a special permit hunt in that unit?

Sometimes thats how you learn a unit. I agree, anyone with pertinent information that's willing to share should help a guy out.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

 :yeah:

That is how I shot my first and only Bull, drew a Cow tag and started researching the unit. Found a small band of Cows that scattered and the four point stood there and looked at me, so he went home with me instead hahaha

Best of luck on the hunt!

Oh I have enough experience in the unit, just haven't seen much for deer, except that I always see does in the same places every time I go out.  Going to cover some ground this year and venture away from the usual bear spots.  Hopefully will see more bucks since the tag is for the magic window after halloween.

I can say this. I have hunted areas a lot over the years where you may see a few does here and there but little to no bucks during hunting seasons. But that first week of november all of a sudden you see big bucks in the areas either on does or searching. Them buggers can be super smart hiding out until the rut kicks in. Then they become a completely different animal and make mistakes. And usually I see more big mature bucks in that one week then all 4 months combined during the fall hunting seasons. Not referring to this area. But general knowledge of experience. In which give high hopes for this tag. Good luck. Have fun and can't wait to see how things work out for you. Congrats on the draw.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.
