Boat anchor

Had pleasure to shoot the boat anchor the other day that j rebel claimed wouldn’t shoot. So it’s a 300 rum that is 8 lbs scoped lol. In all actuality it’s recoil is not bad at all and it’s built really well. I shot two groups just around 3/8”. After conversing w the smith he mentioned he was under the impression the owner was a big time shooter and reloader. He actually regrets making a rifle so light w such high power behind it for a novice. Any ways the boat anchor is a tack driving 8 lb 300 rum…

Good thing, I don't think an 8lb anchor will do too well in service.

Super happy to hear that it is finally shooting well.  I’m sure our mutual friend will be very excited to have it back after two years of not shooting well.   Must have been an easy fix being it was only gone for another month or two.      I assume it didn’t take that long to build a load only.   

Now our mutual friend can be ready for bear season in just a couple short months.

There are three guys (smith included) that can’t stop themselves.   Funny thing is, they think I give two craps.       

Now they come back after two months saying the rifle was fine, which we all know is a lie.   Next (and again) they will say it was my fault their custom rifle didn’t shoot.   The cream always rises to the top…..the rifle had issues.  Sounds like they fixed them so at the end of the day my buddy will finally have a rifle he should have had two years ago……mission accomplished.

I've read the threads concerning "the boat anchor" with interest. I'm not the type that will spend big bucks on anything "custom built".......just an off-the-rack (or lot) shopper for guns, clothes or pickups. But I do enjoy reading about the custom gun world and its quest for achievable perfection. It also makes me appreciate my impulse buy of a Remington 700 Long Range rifle (.300 WM) off the rack in Missoula and my quick discovery (due to a midwayusa sale price + Barnes rebate) of a factory load that seems custom designed for it. Sometimes being cheap pays off.

I’m very much the same way.   I have very nice factory rifles…..most made by savage.   I spend a lot of money on optics and reloading and my factory rifles shoot as well as most customs. Sure they don’t have some of the creature comforts or they weigh a little more, but I can buy 2-4 more rifles for the same cost.   Not knocking customs at all, just not for this novice.   

Most factory guns will shoot sub moa off the shelf now with factory ammo.  If you reload, those same factory guns can shoot 1/2 moa or better.

lol 2-5 times the depth of the water you're anchored in depending on current. although I only have 300 feet of anchor rope on my boat...
