Nookie on your hookie
« on: July 12, 2022, 09:09:32 AM »
Who's going for the opener?  Wowser, check your tide tables it's a mid-day doozie.  I'm sure there will be all kinds of fun sights at the local launches for lunch break viewing pleasure.

Don't need to go since we've been doing good on the coast.
But probably end up doing the evening till dark tide change..
The morning crowd is going to be a complete mess.

Careful about waiting...
If my math is correct the season in 9 won't make it much past the first 3 days.

If you are planning on launching at Mukilteo be advised that the ramps are in very bad shape.  All lanes are full of gravel and drift wood and are pretty much unusable.  I talked to a city worker and he told me they will be cleaning it Friday on the low tide.  So, tomorrow and Friday morning it will be clown show.

I might get some fish & chips at Ivars, sit on the beach and watch the rigs get stuck, boats get grounded, maybe a fist fight or two.  Should be entertaining.

But they should have it clear for the weekend.

At Everett, there should be people stuck at the launch and probably a sailboat or three aground out in the main channel at -4.  I'm thinking the entire launch basin will be mud at that level.

I'm gonna sit this opener out purely due to the tides/launches. I should have a day or 2 off midweek so hopefully will get out then. Good luck out there!

I'm probably gonna hit it early Friday for that 5:30a tide change, but will be done by 6:30 or 7 when the tide gets ripping.

Would like to hit Jeff Head for that opener but running up from Manchester.  Gotta get back by probably 9 just to get the boat out!  It’s a -4 at 11 something.  Yikes…

Probably just fish Southworth…. Good luck out there.

I can't personally believe it has came down to this 3 day deal.  Causes tons of little fish to be taken.  With no blackmouth seasons there are currently a ton of barely legal fish swimming which will most likely account for most of the quota.

All of my friends out fishing 11 and 13 are taking Blackmouth.  They say I got an 11 or two 8's and when I ask for pics they are 23" fish.  Combine that with the shaker "encounters" counted against us and I doubt we take 33% of the official quota in returning adult fish.  Bend over...

Should be 24"-26" minimum.
And encounters are killing the quota's. Whether you report or not fish checker's are averaging an additional 5-10 encounters per fish checked.
I recently heard a checker in area 5 was adding some crazy numbers of encounters,..on her own... how's that for science.
It's a pretty easy system to manipulate. Sadly

FWIW, shakers seem to be WAY down this year compared to last.  I'm catching a small fraction in 10 versus last year.  Actually catching more 18-24" blackmouth than the normal 8 - 14" shakers.

Put one in the boat yesterday afternoon.  I didn't see another fish caught, I think it might have been the huge tides.  Leave it to WDFW to put the opener on the largest tide swing of the year (buck moon was last night).  For whatever reason, most of the boats were much deeper than I was and I was fishing out to 135-150, not sure the theory there but they weren't catching.

Any other reports?  From what I've heard its been pretty dismal in areas 9 and 10.

Is area 9 still open?  I just heard on the Outdoor Line that it's closed through Thursday the 21st but I don't see anything on the WDFW website.

Never mind.  I guess it pays to read the regs.

Anyone that skipped because of the tides this weekend missed out. Fishing was unreal. I lost count of the number of kings we caught on Thursday - Saturday. We were back to the dock no later than 9:00AM each day.

Hows the fishing in 9 or 10 ?
Pretty quiet?

Slowed down but we are getting one teener per trip.
Early am has been best but we did bonk one mid day tide change in Thur.
The amount of pressure and the way the state count's encounters I bet the season is close to a wrap...
