49 degrees north late any antler moose

I drew a moose tag!   In unit 117, Called F&G to see if it was a mistake! Wow! 9 points too!
I've seen moose in 3 different states while elk hunting, but don't know anything about hunting them!
Any suggestions  where to research them?
I've been on line studying the area, lots of private land.
Is there any written by permission or feel free to hunt in that area?

lots of private? there is more places to hunt then you will ever see in this unit. One of the better moose tags in the state.

drive logging roads and glass clear cuts.. its the most effective way to hunt them

A lot of the area that you see as private is various timber company lands, the majority of which is free to drive and access.  Some areas are gated and non-motorized, but still allow access if you have the ability to extract a moose sized animal from many miles behind gates.  That said, learn the unit by boots on the ground, or in this case, tires on the ground.  Drive the unit and learn the roads.  Look for 5-10 year old timber cuts that have good brush growth that can still be seen into.  Don't concentrate on the areas of thick regen timber, moose need to eat, and eat a lot.  Chances of seeing many moose this time of year when it is so hot are pretty nil, but you can learn the roads and habitat type and the general lay of the land.  Good areas to concentrate on are Flowery Trail and the roads north and south, 49 Ski Area, Calispell Peak area.  Congrats on the tag, I'm still waiting with 26pts, and have fun.

Congrats on the tag.
I've seen a few moose this year in the unit.
Been hunting in the unit since I was ten years old.
I agree with all the advise given.
Also clear cuts and drainages that hold water.
They eat a lot,and drink a lot.There are some giants out there .Good luck ,have fun,shouldn't be a problem finding one if you got a full tank gas.

I drew the late Hunt, November 1st, so excited to shoot a moose! I have a friend who got his moose there 2 years ago and offered to take me out! Plus he has mules!  And is from Colville, grew up there, I have a deer tag, along with cougar, elk bear Yay! Now gas has came down to $414 a gallon ill scout anyway.  Any decent camp spots?I heard unit 108 timber company's are grumpy?  Some bad apples out there!
If I want to do a full head & neck mount what size of bag should I use? I made some large ones from painter cloth, plus meat bags.
I'm 5ft I'm sure I won't be able to pack head & antlers with cape.
Wish summer would end! I love cold weather.
Another question is there a lot of  dry camping in this area?

What size bag to use ?  "Yuge"  anything having to do with a moose-"yuge"  good on you for having the room in the house for a head/neck mount...yes they are huge.  I remember shooting one in that area in 2006.
Luckily enough it died on a road.  I remember walking up to it and the first thing about it I saw was his weiner---looked like a 10 lb rolled roast...did I mention they are big ?
Good luck with the hunt...will be good times. I had mine made into a euro mount and it still takes up a good portion of a wall

Yes there are a lot of cougars around. If you are scouting this fall, make sure to have a bear tag in your pocket and pack your rifle. They are thick as thieves in there these days

Congrats, so lucky. Been applying since 1990. Been on 3 moose hunts there. Check out flodell creek campground. It’s about 20 mi east of Colville on hwy 20 in the unit. 🤞🏼 good luck!!

I'm feeling bummed with the fires up there, labor day weekend I went to scout roads up was closed! I've down loaded area with onx maps of that whole area. I'm going up early, like 2 days so I can get settled and drive some of the roads. Hope these fires don't put them all the way out? Any up dates on the fire? News didn't give details. This really makes my heart ache! I really want to get a moose! Ill have help until November 10th, then I'm on my own. I have the worse luck, well I've hunted alone for 16 yrs, I'll keep hunting no matter! Bringing a couple sleds if I have to drag the quarters out!

I wouldn't worry about that fire too much. If you have the late Moose hunt I would have to imagine that fire should be almost completely out by then. Also, if you look at the National Fire Situational Awareness Map, it appears that the fire is essentially out already ( https://maps.nwcg.gov/sa/#/%3F/%3F/48.4678/-117.5694/12 ). This map shows active hotspots (detected by satellite) and it doesn't appear that they have picked up any hotspots for at least a few days now.
