Just reviewing the fall bear requirements, I found this:

All successful black bear hunters statewide MUST submit a black bear premolar tooth per WAC 220-415-090. Pre-paid and self-addressed tooth envelopes can be obtained at all WDFW offices (see page 6). The premolar tooth is located behind the canine tooth of the upper jaw.

Successful hunters are required to submit a tooth from their bear to the Department. Please submit within 5 days of harvest or by December 1, 2022.

Seems like a rather large window.  :dunno:

It’s been this way for quite some time.

The cool thing about harvesting a bear is learning the current food source for that area they are feeding on. Builds knowledge for future. Season is starting off good. Congrats fellas. I know of one more bear to the list.

Who will post the first bear ( definitely not a baited bear  :chuckle:) an hour after opening day kill!  Lol.   Ok, seriously, ready for the first pics!

I used to think that way to. Then learned habits and habitat and now can say my personal opinion is they are easier than blacktail deer. And plenty of people shoot blacktails on opening day without baiting. Your bound to see a few first day bears as plenty of people are out.

Then again there are some that give up after the first day and sit at home all week.

Wife started off our season “after I had snuck to 23 yards of a bear with my bow on opening day that winded me before providing a shot”, with her personal best bear on the 3rd. Funny shaped bear. 221# gutted, no fat, big paws, 20” skull and 6.5’. So much for my theory that old bears always have lots of fat.

Bear cracklings are the best. Our last 6 bears or so have been skinny 😔

Thanks she’s pretty excited. It’s one of those bears that you don’t realize how big it was until you started cutting it up. We boiled the skull the next day and put it next to my 20.5”, 7.5’ 395# gutted bear skull from a couple years ago and thought huh… this 221# bears skull looks bigger… neat lol

Took 6 days to find him, but finally happened.  Best bear yet
