Upcoming season
« on: August 11, 2022, 07:17:41 PM »
Who's getting antsy? Kinda quiet here and needing some chat. Headed to the coast for a week of fishing. Ran out to my spots and already have the first pintail flocks arriving.Hope everyone has a great season.

Have my early goose opener dialed in, with Plans B and C in place. Need to rig 18 new mixed puddlers, load up a blind bag, and look (again) at the tides for the first week or so of duck season. Cathlamet Marina ought to start getting real busy here in the next week or so with salmon anglers, die off, and then pick back up mid-October as Puget Island starts to get 'fowling attention from all points of the compass. Wonder if the guide(s) will be back on PI again this year?

But first - salmon, doves, grouse, and, with a little rain, chanterelles

I’m getting excited. The sloughs & rivers are all full, all the crops are good so there’s lots of water & feed around. I’ve been some driving around the back roads & ive seen lots of ducks & pheasants. And there’s the new puppy to start this year.

Over the past two weeks I've been seeing lots of goose hunting videos on youtube. I've never hunted geese, but it seems like several states have early openers in late August. I'm kind of surprised by this. Washington doesn't open this early, does it?

Early September there is a short opener. Its actually coming right up!

Thank you, I didn't know that.

The link for downloading the migratory bird regs is dead on the wdfw website. That ERegulations page isn't very specific and normally you can download the full pamphlet by clicking on the picture of the pamphlet. It works for big game but I can't get it to work for birds. :dunno:

I just need to get our federal stamps this week and we should be good to go.  Been scouting all week and have been watching a lot of geese.  The geese had a great hatch this spring with lots of them around.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I've been seeing a lot of geese fly overhead lately!  I'm looking forward to this season!

We had a good early goose with 35.  We could have limited out 15 guys as they just kept coming.  A fun hunt.

I am excited about the upcoming season but not about how early it starts in the Idaho Panhandle (would rather have it end later) or about the warm weather.  It just doesn’t seem ducky out there yet.

Last year I got hooked hard on Central Flyway spring snow goose hunting.  Will be doing it again this year...that is what I am most looking forward to.

Anxious for the opener on Saturday. We’ll see how the new puppy Haley does in a blind & hopefully retrieving through the decoys.

I am very excited. Last year was my first for waterfowl.. I knew I would love it but dragged my feet because after deer and fall fishing wraps up winter has been when I actually got most of my "responsible" things done inside the house and garage.

Spent the week looking to expand my options, being a guy w/ no dog or "real" boat (but canoe and kayaks)

Wish you guys the best this season!

My son is super jacked for the youth opener. At 13 it is his third season. He told me the other day that in years past he would think of it a couple of times a week...now it is every day  :chuckle: He has been talking about it weekly since last season closed...he is hooked hard

This is the first year with my dog being a dog and not a puppy, never had a duck dog before. Very excited to take her out

Had a good youth/veteran opener last Saturday. Came home with 4, the puppy retrieved all of them, 2 from the boat 2 from shore. Regular season opens today but I’m waiting for Tuesday to let them settle after the big crowds this weekend,

My spots are all dried up 2 years in a row on the E side which almost always holds water at these spots. Another season done before the opening. Good luck hope next summer will get back down to average temperatures with average precipitation.
