Remington 11-87 Feed Latch - Won't go back in
« on: September 08, 2022, 03:46:01 PM »
Doing my annual cleaning of all the guns. I got the 11-87 apart and the feed latch popped out. I can't seem to get it seated so I can put the link and then the trigger assembly back in. Any advice out there?

On YouTube there is a 3 part series by hillsgun. He completely strips and rebuilds his 1187. Might be something in there that will help.

Thanks. I'll watch if I haven't seen it already

I had the same issue. Probably not the best answer, but I wound up epoxying in place. Seemed to work great. Got rid of the gun. The folded over metal tabs that hold all of the parts together on the 11-87 were somewhat frustrating. The epoxy idea came off of a Remington board I read somewhere.

Thanks for the tip. That worked! I owe you a bourbon and cigar but you have to come here to get it!

Glad it worked. They actually shoot fine without being secured in place. Used mine that way for a few years. As you discovered, it’s a real pain to get back together after cleaning. The epoxy held for the couple years I used it that way. Gave the gun to my nephew after I upgraded. Last I heard, it’s still holding.

My 1100 has a feed latch that falls out every time I clean it. Functions fine, just helps to have 3 fingers to reassemble :chuckle: My dad’s 870 is the same way(both latches are only held in by the trigger pins at this point).

I actually kind of like it since I can get the gunk out from the receiver groove when cleaning (mostly hunt saltwater). There is a tool out there to reset the staking on these feed latches but at around $100 it’s probably more than you’d want to spend for a one time job. A good gunsmith could probably make quick work of it.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
