The velocities seems pretty fast for only a 24in pipe and a case capacity that's only around 80gr H20 but it appeared to shoot well in this particular build so good on them.

3000 with 190's from a 24in barrel and case capacity about the same as the WSM or Rem 7 mag is getting in to the big 28 Nosler territory and the big Nos is burning 8-10gr more powder.

2975 with 180's and a 24in barrel from factory ammo in a case this size is pretty good.

Good find! They must have officially released that today. I have a LA that might see this case in the future.

I haven't seen this much instant hype around a cartridge in a while. Maybe ever. I just looked at Instagram and my feed is FULL of 7 PRC stuff.

Seems like it might thread the needle, I was looking at 6.5 PRC and 300 prc.  I wanted slightly more than the 6.5 for elk but not the recoil of the 300.

:yeah: X2

To a large degree, I think that's exactly the intentions of the new 7 PRC.

When you run the numbers on a 7mm high BC 180gr launching at 3000fps it's pretty impressive and takes a pretty good 200+gr 30 cal to out do it.

Will this do anything different than a 7 Rem mag built/throated the same, not really, but there's no belt to deal with and overall I think the 7PRC is a better case design.

7mm PRC O.A.L. = 3.34"
300 wm O.A.L. =   3.34"
Case Head size for both .532

Hmmmmmm New barrel time for the old truck gun, just gotta get the right Reamer to avoid the common PRC Clickers

I may or may not have a few boxes of “just incase” 180’s on the way…

Maybe its just me but it seems like Hornady is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. As said before, there is plenty of established 7mm options , 7RM, 7WSM, 7LRM, 7SAUM. All too often I think we get way to caught up in slight differences when comparing cartridge's, in todays times it would seem more important to go with what ammo or components are available vs buying into a new cartridge. I'll take a stab at this.
A lot to unpack in that article from R bros. Other than the 7rm everything else I would consider "custom" today. The 7 PRC will not be custom with Hornady. If it's like the other Hornady backed cartridges it will be off the shelf available even for us reloaders and the rifle companies are apparently already committed. conversely, You know what else is "custom"? A 7rm compatible for heavies with the appropriate twist! And call me weird but I just don't like belted cases.
The other 7mm are awesome but personally I'm thankful for companies producing options like this. A 7mm pushing heavies around 3000fps and chambered correctly in factory rifles is also awesome.

I think the "custom" statement was made because of reamer design. A quick search only shows Savage with one on the market. So if you want a 7PRC but not a Savage, I guess it's going to be "custom".

Hey, if someone wants a new toy cool rock on, but there is a whole lot of marketing behind it and it probably will do okay because of that, not because it fills a void in the market.

Dead is dead, 7PRC, 7RM, 7SAUM.... it really doesn't matter, that's all I'm saying.

I see bullet selection and making a good shot far more important than which comparable 7mm cartridge to select.

YMMV and that's okay!
