Insulated Boots
« on: November 07, 2022, 08:42:49 AM »
Looking for some recommendations on insulated boots. Use would be for predator hunting in the winter, so something good for hiking but also hour+ long sits. Thinking either some insulated rubber boots or pac boots.

800g seems like a popular insulation level for balancing sweaty feet from hiking and warmth while sitting. What's everyone using?

Google Artic Shield Hunting Booties.  After hour one of sitting in winter you need these over your hiking boots.  $49 problem solved.

That's a great recommendation, thanks. Didn't even know those were a thing. Much cheaper than new boots too!

I ran some Hoffman pack boots when it was nasty in Wy.  I was really happy with them.  The tread was great and my feet stayed warm but never overheated.

I used to have a pair of OR gaiters for mountaineering that had foam liners just like the cheap camp pads.  They were crazy warm and you could hike in them.  That said, they are now $250. :o  I think I paid $40 back in the day.

I like the overboot things above, seems like a great option for sitting.

The reviews on them looked good so I pulled the trigger on them. Only thing is it looks like the sizing is based on going over a tennis shoe, not a boot so I went a size higher than their size chart says.

I sat for an hour in 17 degrees a few weekends ago and my toes were the only thing that got cold. The value of a puffy jacket is well known but if you don't have puffy pants they are a game changer!! These booties should round out the kit and make long call stands better than tolerable this winter.

Added puffy pants myself this year.  Even though I went super light ultras they made the difference when watching lakeshore for moose to come out or glassing in sub freezing wind.
