Daughters Montana Buck...
« on: November 07, 2022, 01:00:58 PM »
Spent the past week in Montana with my wife and Daughter. Daughter had a general deer tag and an antlerless whitetail tag and she was able to fill both. She passed up some nice 2x2 bucks last year and was looking to relocate them this year hoping they had grown. On the 1st morning  of the hunt we watched this buck bed down 1/2 way down the drainage so we made our way off the top to get a better look. She asked me if he was bigger than the bucks she passed on the year before and I said yes and he was bigger than anything you have killed before. She asked me what I would do and I said I probably wouldn't shoot him on the 1st day myself  but he is a great buck and it is 100% your call. She said well it is the 1st morning so lets let him rest a while and we can climb back to the top and check out the next 4 ravines and if we don't see anything larger or older we can come back and decide. We climbed out and on the way up she told my wife that she really wanted to shoot him. My wife told me this after we had checked the remaining areas of the small BLM chunk we were on. We got back to where the buck was bedded and I confirmed he was still there. I said lets have a snack on top and make a plan if she wanted to take the buck. She grinned and said Yes I really want to try and take him. We dropped of the neighboring ridge out of sight and had to get below him to get in position for a good shot. I slid the pack up onto ridgeline and she got behind the gun after we kicked out some steps in the steep bank. I ranged him at 149 yards and she settled in and was able to make a perfect shot. Mom filmed us getting set up and talking through the shot.

That is what it is all about. Congrats to the entire family.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
