2007 Elk Hunting Poll
«
on:
November 16, 2007, 03:49:11 PM »
Just like the deer, I would like to run our own hunter success poll here. It has to be just as accurate as any WDFW poll. I assumed that anyone voting actually hunted. Again WASHINGTON only please.

As stated elsewhere, we filled two cow tags of three guys with tags. Other related family group with three cow tags went meatless!
No bulls this year for my camp.

Drew the multi-season elk. Didn't hunt spikes just put in for Modern points. Wasn't able to get over to the westside with my bow early but hunted late on the eastside archery, great hunt but unsuccessful.

You still have time, head over to the westside and whack an elk! I drove home last weekend (westside) and took friends out for one day, saw three legal bulls and lots of animals. Hunted the Winston, lots of people and lots of Elk! We got some good weather but if you are traveling check the pass report and road conditions. It's not to late, don't eat that $167, good luck! If you need a point in the right direction, let me know.

I got a spike the first 20 minutes of the Western Wash rifle season and I feel totally Lucky. If you don't have any kind of special permit draw in Western Wash your usually toast..........Les

Bagged my 4x4 opening day of rifle season in Lewis River unit. My ex-friends refer to me as "Lucky *censored*", because I have shot 4x4 or better 5 of last 7 years. All westside rifle. 3 of 5 on opening day. They on the other hand got to hunt private land this year...again, and again out of 9 of them, they only got one cow this year. Friendship apparently went bad, after I told them it looks like they are the lucky *censored* anytime they manage to get one. Last year between the 9 of them, they got nothing. The year before one 3x4. Yep, guess I'm a Lucky *censored*. That being the case, I guess I'll take being lucky every year.

I've read somewhere that the national average for a rifle elk hunter is one animal in 8 years. I have been told by F&G that it is @ 1 in 11 years for this state. If you look at the harvest reports for last year, very few units have success rates over 10%. Many were down in the 2-4% range, with most being between 6-8%. I don't know, but to me, I don't consider any of those numbers to be a "success".
Stats do show that the permit hunts do have a much higher success rate, in most cases.

I was bummed but you made me feel better bearhunter, I've scorred to 2 previous years.
