This pic just came through about 10 minutes ago from my spypoint camera.

Is it just me or does that look like a fairly young fawn?

Just looks like a doe and a late drop yearling from last year.

Perhaps this will lend credence to the folks who think the rut starts around Labor day. When they start asking if the rut has started.   :dunno:

Breeding and the rut can be so strange sometimes.
Before moving out here, I hunted heavily in South Carolina.  The weekend of November 4th was always the best weekend to be in the woods for full on rut activity, chasing, grunting, fighting, breeding, everything.  It was magical.
We tried to kill does in October, and not November.  I shot a doe on October 12th one year,  gutted her and to my surprise found 2 developed fetus 1.5-2" long.  That doe had to have been knocked up 40-50days prior.  How that is possible I have no idea.  Was an odd day in the woods.

Deer come in heat at different times.
Some really early most during the right cycle and some really late.

Looks like a grown deer to me. It’s behind the other deer set back at an angle. Optical illusion of sorts.

So......I went and got the card so I could get a higher resolution image than what comes across from Spypoint. It is definitely an optical illusion when you see it in HD. Just 2 deer that happen to be sitting at the perfect distance and angle to make it look like a small fawn.
