Cougar called into 13 steps
« on: April 02, 2023, 10:24:40 AM »
Bagged this tom last Thursday. Called it into 13 steps. It came in behind me and slightly to my left. I was under a tree and against a stump during the set. I stood up to leave the set and we both spotted each other at the same time. I was able to judge it was a mature cat and casually grabbed my .223, done deal. Piled right up.
My first cougar. I was amazed at how extremely sharp the claws were and also how it came in so quiet in such a brushy, nasty area. I had thought I had heard something earlier in the set but never saw anything.

I am guessing its 5-7 years old, 135-150 lbs (could be wrong). 7'6" from nose to tail, missing some teeth on its lower jaw. Had some as sweet and sour with rice last night, tastes like pork, but needs tenderized. I took all the meat. Getting a full mount. Very cool experience and I am looking forward to doing this again.

Ive got video of the cat (dead) on my instagram @bozeandbears

ecaller, ultimate predator calls app, pushed to a blue tooth speaker. "lonely calf"  and "calf Distress"

Warden was guessing 6-7. I'll be real curious to find out. Such an amazing creature. And the area I was hunting is really over run with them...at least according to my trail cam....
