You definitely do not get your points back if you do not purchase an MS tag once drawn. You do not lose them if you purchase a leftover after the July 31st deadline. I've never heard of anyone returning an MS tag after the special draw period. Pretty sure you are locked in at that point just like you can't change your weapon choice if you put in for draws already. I can't see dfw refunding anyone on MS tags.

Out of all the guys I know who live around here this is the first time absolutely none of us have put in for multi-deer.  From our point of view, its just totally not worth it.  I havent had one for 2 previous years.

To me being able to hunt deer all fall and into the winter and put in for multiple weapon categories in the special draw is totally worth the little the tag costs. But I like to hunt a lot.

:yeah:  September thru December.  What could be better?  Hunting groups have fractured, buddies are mostly gone so I'm hunting more archery.  I find special permits are limited in archery, at least the areas I generally hunt.  Also, my son hunts modern, the MS allows me to hunt with him.  When I don't draw MS, I can always hunt bear.

My deer/elk choices are basically OIL at this point.  MS tag might improve the draw odds by .01% and allows some choice of weapon for any tag.

I apply for the Multi tags every year.  I love to hunt and at my age I never know if it will be my last season.  So, I try to spend as many days in the field as I can.

One benefit of buying the multi-season tag before applying for quality draws is the ability to put in for a quality hunt area for multiple chances to draw...my example is if you really want an Entiat quality permit then you can put in for the modern firearm permit and the archery permit using your two options for the quality application for one unit...

That is what I was thinking, you get to put in for all 3 weapon choices, + 2nd deer choices for each weapon and in my case 65+ for each weapon.
Multi-season tag holders can apply for special hunts for all three weapon types. Elk Multi-season tag holders are eligible to apply for special hunts on both sides of Washington state.

Thankfully the tags odds aren’t that bad for most units or no body would bother any more.

So (just so I have this straight), I cannot buy a rifle elk tag and put in for a muzzleloader special draw, right? ...or vice-versa...
That's the way I have always understood it, but I was just thinking the other day "Why would it matter?  If I buy a rifle elk tag, I have to turn my "regular" tag in in order to get the one I drew, right?" (I honestly don't know... :dunno: in 22 years of applying I have never drawn a quality tag.... :P

You can only apply for the weapon choice of tag you chose.  Unless you have the multi season.  When you draw a special permit, you keep the tag you originally picked up, they only send you a letter (permit) allowing you to hunt the draw you were picked for.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Correct, if you all ready purchased a rifle elk tag and drew the multi elk you need to go into a store turn ing your elk tag and purchase and receive the multi tag. 22 years sis a long time you should put in for some easier tags to draw.

Fair criticism for the elk tag.  I live in the Blues, so I've been trying to draw one of the tags here. I have tried putting in for every weapon at one point or another. At this point, I'll keep trying... I know the area and it's right out my back door.
Not a fair criticism for Quality Deer.  I want a decent mule deer tag anywhere north central.  The ones I put in for shouldn't be this hard to get.  I just have %$#@ luck in the draws.  I put in for the Blue Mountain Foothills Whitetail Tag in the buck category.  I know a lot of guys that have drawn that tag 3 or 4 times since I've lived here.  I drew it once... with 14 points.  WDFW just really hates my Wild ID# I think....

That makes sense as long as you understand why you’re not elk hunting.
