Super secret river.,
« on: May 04, 2023, 05:24:03 PM »
At the risk of pissing everyone off...
.
But I saw an announcement about a very limited fishing opportunity at a river a lot of people fish, just not usually the end of May-July...
.
But, so far, nobody has mentioned it in any forums, or on Facebook.
.
It is a small return, and a one time season.
.
And I know someone is going to be pissed at me for bringing it up...
.
But, anybody else know what I'm talking about?
.
I plan on checking it out, and never fished it before.
.
But, figure if I'm driving past it and it's open, I might leave home a little earlier and check it out.
.
Middle of the week, before daylight and I might even have a chance at being the 2nd, or 3rd there...

Good luck finding a public spot. No boats allowed either. Best bet is way down low.

Prohibited boats in section 1?
That's the only one you could use a boat on.

Section 1 is literally from the boat launch upstream.
2 pole endorsement...
.
I'm going to have to do more research...

No, not section 1.  Only 1 section of the 3 said "fishing from boats prohibited"

Lots of walk and knock may get you access. Secret river is no longer fishing friendly. That hatchery's purpose is to provide for ocean and estuary fisheries, and fodder. With effort, you may find that king. There will be a lot of downer steelhead that could provide action.

Nope, that one is North West 150 miles or so.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

Stationary Gear Restriction:
The line, weight, lure, or bait must be moving (not stationary) while in the water.

Well, I’m not much of river fisherman, but that is the oddest regulation that I’ve seen in while.  Why?

Snagging. The fish really keg up in certain holes so guys will toss jigs out and let them sit on the bottom until something touches their line and then set hoping to get them on the gill plate or forward. This started on the Samish a decade or more ago.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

Same thing as the no floating object behind the hook or however they word it.

In reality, it does absolutely zero to deter snagging.

Was thinking about going down and giving it a go but sounds more like a pain in the azz than anything.  Goodluck to those who go.

I was under assumtion that the moving gear rule was to keep plunkers from taking up so much space on small rivers.

while it does outlaw plunking, that wasn’t the intent. It was to stop the mouth breathers from doing the “Samish jerk” tossing big lead heads and letting them sit on the bottom until a fish would bump into their line.

I never tried this river for springers, it’s been open for them since at least last year. Haven’t heard of much success. Sure miss when WDFW would plant sizeable numbers of kings down there, had some really great days trolling flash glos in the tidewater. Not many small boat friendly salmon fisheries left in this state unfortunately.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
