Area 13 guys out there?
« on: July 30, 2023, 11:24:31 AM »
It's early, been out a few times.  Marked some decent pods jigging and bait bait was decent at Anderson last week and then yesterday it was like some shocked the area.  Couldn't find at bait ball, not a single seal, porpoise and no birds.  Guys at launch said same thing.  Wasn't expecting it to be hot and it's early.

But yesterday was weird.  One guys joked we are probably going to have an earthquake or something.

Anyone else scouting around and scratching out a fish or two?

I went last week and went 2 for 5 in about 6 hours of fishing. Biggest was maybe 10.  Still slow for me in 13.

I’ve had a decent year so far.

Bait has been on surface until last week, now it seems like they are deeper or on the edges.

Leo’s flashers and Kingfishers are working, but lots of fish caught on Pt. Defiance spoons and pearl wobblers.

Bit early for me. Ocean is so good right now and tuna just rolled in. Without crabbing it is hard to leave something really good for something mediocre at best. Also with BoHarb ramp closed we gotta let Zittles stick it to us. Some rumblings about the Feds being forced to open Solo Point. I will fish it in earnest mid-August for kings mainly cuz we should have humpies for backup plan B. I do miss jigging up slab kings before sunrise in 25fow.

What's going on with the Boston Harbor ramp?  I heard they were doing some work on it but haven't been out there this year.  Guess there's always Swantown also, just a long run out there.

I've always been curious about the launch at Solo point.  I usually launch at the Nisqually reach ramp, but it sucks at low tide.  I used to get a range pass the fish the river and wondered if it was good to get in at Solo pt, but always heard conflicting information about if I could used the launch there as a civilian or not.  Decided to not tempt fate with the MPs.

Man, our ramp options in the south sound have always just sucked.

Pickering pass ( good till 0)
Grapeview (good till a 0)
Allyn (not great at lower tides)

Are all options in Harstine isl area.

BoHarb access is being rebuilt, slowly. Wish we could magically gain more truck w/trailer parking. All the other ramps are so far that Zittle$ costs the same. Can launch my sled at Luhr but really enjoy the big boat to get out of the sun.

We use Zittles, but yes the $20 is steep.  I tell myself it's still cheap to get family out for a few hours and is 10mins from the house.  Luhr is 1 mile away but definitely not a low tide option!  When I had a sled 15 years ago we'd launch there to duck hunt, different story with a bigger boat.

Glad guys are finding fish, gives me some optimism.  This is my first year seriously fishing 13 from my boat, so we are figuring it out.

With the cost of fuel it may be cheaper for me to launch at zittels than pay the $10 to put in at swantown.  Luhr beach is the closet to me but gotta time the tides right, I have a jet but it’s not much use when there’s only 6” of water at low tide!
