Wife’s first buck!
« on: October 22, 2023, 05:16:02 PM »
This morning was the perfect morning. My wife got her first buck! She has shot other deer in the past but never a buck. After an 8 year break I convinced her yesterday that we should go try, so we went and picked up a tag. Hiking in she spotted a deer coming over the ridge skyline about 600 yards away. It was a whitetail buck. We watched him come over the ridge and disappear into some thick brush. We hiked parallel to the ridge glassing every 50 yards or so until I finally spotted him burried deep in the brush. We got to a nice rock outcropping 350 yards from the buck. I put the spotting scope on him and we just didn’t have a shot yet due to literal branches obstructing his vitals. I got the scope dialed and her setup and we decided to try and stand the buck up. No matter what we did he wouldn’t budge. Throwing rocks, screaming, snorting, Rylee(10 year old)singing and screaming every song in her head, kids running around in circles. Nothing worked. Finally a side by side on neighboring property drove up ridge and he stood. Just long enough to turn and bed back down. Now he was facing the other way and slightly exposed his neck. I had her look through the scope and see how comfortable she felt trying to make a neck shot. My thought was she misses, or he’s dead. If she misses he will stand and we will be able to get a second shot. After a few minutes she got steady, I watched through the spotting scope and she shot. His head tipped over and he never moved a muscle! Perfect shot! The 6.5 PRC did damage and no meat wasted. I couldn’t be more proud of my wife and the amazing shot she made, and was such a great experience having the whole family there for the experience!

Hell of a season for you Micheal
I don't always shoot big mule deer, but when I do, it's with a bow tech!
