F/S Beaver Carcasses ~ Put in your Order Now
« on: November 07, 2023, 11:04:46 AM »

Hi Folks,
Marsee Wilson will be pilling up those beaver carcasses.
He is one of the best beaver trappers in the state I think along with a few others.
He has order already so if you need some contact him now and put in your order.
He said that he is selling them this year to other beside his regular customers so if you need some for-dog food or trapping bait
or even a meal get on his list, put in your order now.

He can be reached at:  360-424-7580

Honest question. Is it actually legal to sell the meat and carcasses of trapped beaver? I understand you can sell the pelts and stuff but what does the Lacey act say about the sale of beaver meat? I know selling beaver is illegal but maybe beaver meat is ok?

It’s legal as it’s not a game animal or game fish

It’s legal as it’s not a game animal or game fish

https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=220-200-110

(1) It is unlawful to offer for sale, sell, purchase, or barter edible parts of wild animals or game birds

This says wild animals not game animals.

Jake is correct. Beaver is not a game animal. As far as the WAC you posted, beaver is not "edible."

I mean I’ll take your guys word for it. I just can’t seem to find this information anywhere. I’m not trying to be mean or anything I just don’t quite understand. How can you sell something to be eaten that isn’t edible? Just another one of those cases where things don’t seem to be very clear in the rules. I believe you guys and don’t doubt that you are right m.

Beaver and other furbearing animals are considered game animals. The key to the selling of the meat or parts of furbearing animals is that they are not considered edible. Same applies to all game animals. Non-edible portions may be sold except for some exceptions like bear gall bladders. Best to read the full chapter but when it comes to furbearers all parts are saleable.
As for selling beaver for human consumption. I do not think, you can do that. What a person does with it is their own business, but I would not advertise it for sale for human consumption.

Thank you for the clarification. This makes much more sense to me.
