salt lick
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:01:02 AM »
Dumped 50 lbs of salt 2 years ago in a spot in Stevens county where I have seen alot of muleys, plan was to hang a cam on it and see what hit it, never did, got side tracked or outta time. Over this past weekend I went up and looked at it,it rained the evening before, we were camped 100 yards away and deer must of been on it. needless to say I will be hangin a cam, look at the lower center  deer track its huge.

I would expect much more damage here with elk being around and whitetails, only seen one whitey up here in 4 yrs and never a sign of elk, talked to many locals and never seen a elk either, pretty weird looks like excellent habitat, but expected for WA lots of great country and absent of game animals. I dumped 600 lbs over 2 yrs on a spot on MIca, for elk, would love to see what that looks like now been 7 yrs since I was able to get there, closed the roads, way too far to walk

honest question here....why would you dump 600lbs of salt in one spot somewhere in the middle of the woods?

Elk love salt, that spot will have elk and other animals hitting it for 10 more years with no more work.

Not really, cam spot and whats in the area, elk and deer crave the salt in the summer, serious decline in consumption to almost none in winter and late fall, i also had a killer deal on this salt so i dumped it

In stead of salt, I put out livestock mineral blocks. The ground looks the same after one winter, and they keep coming back.
