Wyoming 2024 advice
« on: November 13, 2023, 11:56:20 AM »
Looking for some help about Wyoming, have never been there, but my brother and I have 5 pts each and are looking to get a general tag for the 2024 season. Anyone have some advice for starting places to e-scout? Deadline is 1/3/24 I believe so need to decide if we can make it next year or not. I believe 5 pts should get us a general tag.
Anyway, not looking for honey holes, but maybe you were in my boat last year and can offer advice.  We prefer to get off the beaten path, but will only have our boots so nothing that requires horse or four wheeler.
Thanks!

5 pts for general elk?

That's what I'll have and I think I may wait another year...or at least see if I can get anything decent in the Idaho draw first.  Judging by the way things are going I wouldn't be surprised at all if 5 pts is <100% draw this year for the regular (and no way I'm paying for the special).

You should have until Jan 31st to get your app in. LOTS of places to hunt on the gen tag just figure out what units are general, then look at public land and what the terrain and access is. Once you find some good looking areas the Wyoming website has a lot of info if you poke around. Area biologist will be able to give you some basic info as well regarding numbers of elk and access. Good luck to you guys

You looking for bears or no bears?

We drew this year with 5.5 points. I can’t find again what I saw before, but I thought I saw where 5.0 wasn’t 100% in 2023.

Bears don’t bother us too much, hunted in griz country in MT the last few years and feel like we are comfortable taking the right precautions. Can you buy a point at application for Wyoming?

Copy that. You’re right, 1/3/24 is when it opens for apps.
Thanks for the advice.

5 points was 100% in the regular. 4 points was 8%

Spend it now, we have 7 and I don't think there is a draw greater than a percent or two odds.  We'll end up with a general tag at some point, need to figure out if points expire if I don't buy one this year.

you get a year. Go two and kiss them goodbye

Be nice to have the option. Would love to shoot a bull, but at the end of the day it’s about feeding the family.

You lose points after 8 years if you don’t apply?

Consecutive years of not applying/buying point(s).
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
