Shipping A Rifle
« on: November 24, 2023, 03:13:21 AM »
I’m sending my rifle to the manufacturer for warranty repairs. I know I can just mail it to them (same way I’d mail to a FFL), but can they mail it back to my home address after the repair?

Seems like they wouldn’t have to ship to am FFL, since they’re shipping me a gun I already own.

Yes, I sent a revolver in for warranty repairs this summer. USPS and USPS back, it’s spendy $90 out. You must be home to receive it back.

Yes you can ship for repair in a unmarked box. It will be returned to you. No middle man needed. Ask for signature on both ends . Yours and there's.

If it’s a warranty repair, the manufacturer should be providing the shipping label.

 :yeah:

I've sent back 3-4 different guns, both long and handgun, to the manufacture and every time they sent me out a prepaid label and returned it directly to me.

Browning told me they only do that for Warrenty repairs within one year of manufacture. Warrenty expires after 5 years. I’m at year two, so guess I pay shipping.

Sorted it out though. Shipmygun gets it there for about $20

Pretty sure handguns should be UPS or FEDEX, not USPS, if I recall correctly.

Pro tip: rifles fit almost exactly into golf club boxes.

I'm not a golfer. I went to UPS and they didn't sell boxes that had the right dimensions for a gun. The worker sent me over to a driving range and told me to dumpster dive for a golf club box. I drive over there and there's one box with a pizza crust on it and the fit was so perfect I could shake the box and there was no movement. It even came with baffles to hold the barrel in place originally for the club handle. I guarantee every golf store is tossing out boxes that work for guns.

Caveat to that, the little UPS or FEDEX "stores" won't ship guns you have to take them directly to the main UPS or FEDEX places.  At least that's how it was last I knew, if that has changed maybe someone can update this.

FYI, UPS won't handle firearms or firearms components any.ore. Not even scheduled pickups. I just tried last week.

UPS, FED X, USPS will ship long guns for non FFL holders, The clerk may require a copy of the FFL on the receiving end.
USPS will only ship handguns for FFL holders only.
A lot of times the clerks have no clue and will not accept a shipment as in Karls case most likely.
All handguns must be shipped air service through UPS and FED X, ie: common carrier.
Most dealers will not supply a FFL to non FFLs.
Just ask for the first 3 and last 5 of FFL number and enter it into BATFs FFL EZ search and it will verify validity.
Print that copy and take it to shipper and it will suffice.
Tight boxes are not the best idea, as there is not enough padding.
Use over size and pad to avoid damage.
