Lining up
« on: December 05, 2023, 06:50:40 PM »
We live in a great area for waterfowl hunting. Few years back at public access areas they decided not to let people in until 1:30 hours prior to shooting light. I thought it was a great idea since people would camp out at blind spots over night. With my work schedule and travel I often cruise by the public access points and there are cars and trucks lined up claiming a spot in line. Occasionally there is nobody inside the vehicle and leaving an empty rig overnight. Just curious on what everyone thinks about this? I get that they are first come first serve… but is it really allowing areas to be accessed fairly?
Thoughts???

They line up a week in advance

If it is legal, let it happen. To me that is a lot of folks out of my way as I find plenty of other great spots that don't have goofy rules, reservations, or costs. Maybe a sign stating that abandoned vehicles will be towed and a service that'll actually follow through.

I’d say it’s like driving across the state sleeping in the snow waiting for a tag putting in that extra effort but don’t worry someone will chime in to wine and say no far . In my opinion  put the extra effort and it usually works out

It’s only going to get worse. Population growing every year and hunter numbers along with it.
I use to go out at 1am with a Predator chair cover up with a tarp and sleep with the dog between my legs till shooting hours. Got tired of it after about 10 years. Did not even buy a stamp yet this year.

If I go I sleep in drive around till I find a quality hunt site open and hunt mid to end of day.

Or take the yak out.

They are not growing access sites. So crowding is the name of the game.
Not doing the early morning rumble any longer. I am retired so I can go when I want.
