Powder Problem???

I recently purched American Pioneer  powder in pellet form.  I use Musket Caps for a primer.  Anyways I shot 6 shots using those pellets and two of those I only had a partial burn.  I know this because it only kicked like a .22 and on one of those shots the second pellet didn't ignite until about 50yds out (WHICH WAS FREAKING COOL LOOKING)

So my question is has anyone tried this stuff in the pellet form and had the same thing happen to them?  Did I just have bad luck?  It doesn't say anywhere on the bottle that 209 primers are preferred.  As of now I am switching back to the loose powder form.  But would like to use the pellets for the wife since it's easier to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think those pellets are designed to be fired with .209 primers.  I don't think your musket caps are hot enough for these pellets.

I think you can shoot American Pioneer "loose" powder with #11 and musket caps.

I tried it in my muzzleloader and could;nt get it to shoot very good groups some sounded louder than others. I went back to 777  again. I was told you want to buy the Jim Shockey Gold in the pioneer powder it is way better.

I think it boils down to ignition, or lack there of...

No. 11's and musket caps just don't build the heat that is required to efficiently ignite the pellets.

Have you tried the standard pyrodex pellets?

Sounds a lot like the problem we where having with the 777 pellets  Come to find out you should only use 209 with the 777 pellets. We switched to the loose powder and our grouping got way tighter and the gun worked just fine. I was shooting 777 pellets out of my bighorn and using a hornady sst bullet. we looked at the target and you could see where the bullet went through the target sideways. We even pulled one of the bullets out of the stump and sure enough it was facing us. I've neer had a problem shooting the pyrodex pellets out of my gun's. It might be a little dirtier but they get the job done.

Last year I shot 100 grains of pyrodex pellets pushing a 250 grain Ballistic tip and had excellant groups.  I wanted to try a cleaner shot this year so bought Jim Shockeys gold loose for me and the Jim Shockeys gold pellets for the wife.

I think you are all right that they do need 209 primers.  It doesn't say on the bottle but 1 my groups were awful and seeing the second pellet ignite 50 yds out (while it was cool) sucked.  My groups with the loose are not as good as last year with the pyrodex but it is the first time I went out this year so we'll see.  I may have to go back.  I'd rather have a dirty accurate gun than a clean innaccurate one.
